Budget 2010 - The Economic Challenge
The Chancellor faces a big challenge tomorrow when he announces his budget. On the one hand he is faced with a fragile economy that is perhaps not strong enough to achieve steady growth without government support. On the other hand, he faces jittery markets, calling for fiscal prudence to avert a downgrading of Britain's credit rating... or worse, a run on the pound. As if this wasn't enough to worry about, there's also the small matter of an impending election. Watch this space.

UK Trade Deficit Widens, despite weakened pound.
Many economists are hoping that the fall in sterling since the start of the recession will help reduce the current account deficit, particularly in the trade of goods. However, the latest figures are a harsh reminder that it is not that simple - the UK must also have products that are worth exporting!
