The Chancellor faces a big challenge tomorrow when he announces his budget. On the one hand he is faced with a fragile economy that is perhaps not strong enough to achieve steady growth without government support. On the other hand, he faces jittery markets, calling for fiscal prudence to avert a downgrading of Britain's credit rating... or worse, a run on the pound. As if this wasn't enough to worry about, there's also the small matter of an impending election. Watch this space.
